Ordinary Moments
"There are no ordinary moments." -- Dan Millman, via QuotesBlog
Today the Montgomery County Sheriff showed up at our door. He delivered Jennie and I a summons regarding our delinquent mortgage. You see, our financial situation is a disaster, and we are looking at ways to make it look better:
One of them is a "short sell" of our house. The way I understand it is that the mortgage company agrees to allow our house to be sold at less than the amount we owe. Another way is by consulting a bancruptcy attorney. Keeping our other creditors at bay has obviously been a challenge. We've been screening our phone calls for the past several months. I've gotten better about that, though. I just have to guard my heart when talking with them.
I spoke with one creditor today:Them: You understand, Mr. Johnson, that, because of the condition of your account with us, the collection phone calls will continue to occur once every 5 days.
I also make a point, whenever talking to a creditor during one of these calls, to acknowledge the person who is doing quality control (i.e., listening in on the conversation). I suppose it is a way for me to try to maintain a sense of dignity and/or control over the situation.
Me: I understand, ma'am. It's been a pleasure talking with you today, and I'm sure it will be a pleasure talking with you 5 days from now.
"Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own;
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow, do the worst, for I have lived today."
