New Voice-to-Screen Technology Could Benefit Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The Cincinnati Business Courier reports that Cincinnati Bell Wireless will launch a service that allows customers to receive voicemails as text messages.

I look forward to seeing this emerging technology in action, mainly because it shows some promise for people in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, of which our family is a part. Most deaf and hard-of-hearing folks I know who rely on text messaging could receive voicemails from hearing people in this way.

Most folks tweet about coffee over other beverages

It would appear that most folks on twitter like to post about coffee over other popular beverages (Tweetvolume: coffee vs tea vs milk vs water vs beer). The picture below was taken at about 1 PM EDT on Wednesday, May 30, 2007:

Sophia Ramos Video Promo

I received a Google Alert for "Journey Inside My Mind", and found this from Rock Goddess Sophia Ramos, whose music I've played many times on the Journey Inside My Mind podcast:

Stop by CD Baby to pick up the CD "Her Majesty" with some great original rock music that channels Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and others. Sophia Ramos rocks!

Three Men Hiking! - JOKE ALERT!

Mood: upbeat
Listening to: Keisha getting ready for bed
Reading: Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time
Eating: popcorn
Watching: The Perfect Man

This came via an email from Michelle P., who knows I have a sense of humor.

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large, raging violent river. Needing to get on the other side, the first man prayed, "God, please give me the strength to cross the river." Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed, "God, please give me strength and the tools to cross the river." Poof! God gave him a rowboat, strong arms, and strong legs, and he was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed,"God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross this river." Poof! He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards up stream, and walked across the bridge!

Overcoming Inertia

This morning we are finishing packing and reminded of last-minute things to take care of. I am reminded of how hard it is to overcome inertia. We're going out of our comfort zone with this trip. It will be the first time we've gone out of state really, in several years. Our apartment is like an enclosure. Cincinnati has a circle freeway, which is like an enclosure. Sure, I commute to Dayton and back for work, but I'm still in that "enclosure".

We're putting our dog Jake and our cat Zoey up for the week, and it's hard to let them go, just for this short time.

It's an interesting dynamic for sure.

On Vacation

We're getting ready to head down to Fort Worth, Texas to spend time with family. Gonna be quite an adventure. Over 15 hours' worth of driving to be sure.

I hope to provide some updates between now and when we return. In addition to this blog, feel free to check out

I hope to get some audio during the trip, too, but don't expect that to show up as a podcast necessarily. Speaking of which, if you'd like to leave some audio feedback during the trip, call +1 (206) 666-5466 (JIMM). Oh yeah, and check out JIMM 85 - Super THRILL Mix to hear a little of what we'll be listening to. Feel free to check it out and enjoy, too.

For the Drive #1 - Music Mix

We're getting ready to head to Fort Worth, Texas the week before Memorial Day for vacation. We really look forward to seeing family we haven't seen since 1999, and new family members we've never met.

We weighed all the options and decided that driving would be the best option. But it's about a 15-hour drive, so I knew we'd want some music to keep us company. I recently released JIMM 85 - Super THRILL Mix, which contains a 54-minute mix of independent music for the drive. I also have been creating a pretty good music library on iTunes, and I thought I'd share the recent mix I put together on a CD. All links in the table below go to the iTunes Music Store. Why not pick up some of these tunes yourself?

Happy Mother's Day 2007

Happy Mother's Day to mothers everywhere, especially to my wife Jennie, my mother-in-law Carrie, the Official Mom of Journey Inside My Mind - my Mom, my sister Stephanie, and my sister Mandy, who was about to have her second child when I talked with Mom last night:

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

A bit of light reading

I went to the library today for the first time in about a month. I was looking for some quick and dirty books related to programming. I don't know if these will help, but here's what I brought home.

Hangnail Treatment

Good morning. I have a hangnail this morning. While that might sound minor, it certainly is making sure I'm aware of it. A quick search found this video, which if/when you're in my situation, you can also use.

Keisha's Heroes

Keisha just stopped pouring herself a drink to pour me something. I told her that's very much like Jesus. Then this exchange ensued:

ME: Jesus is our hero, you know
KEISHA: And you're my hero, too
I love that. I just want to bottle it up and store it for those rough moments in life.

Music is indeed the soundtrack of our lives

... and not only that, but also the soundtrack to the Journey Inside My Mind!

It's just a powerful song. I especially love how it builds up to the first chorus. Pick it up here at the iTunes Music Store: Evanescence - Bring Me to Life

I've noticed I've recently sent the following message on Twitter to indicate I'm online/at the computer/doing work stuff:

That reminded me of the scene in the movie (The Matrix) when Morpheus, Trinity, and others take Neo to see the Oracle. I searched IMDB and was reminded that the song is Meat Beat Manifesto - Prime Audio Soup. I went to the iTunes Music Store and bought it. Click that link and you, too, can buy it.
