Thank you Sophia Ramos and Matthew Ebel for helping me get to work today

Situation: Our 1993 Saturn SL2 needs brake job. It's our only car. I work in Dayton but live in Cincinnati. We got a rental from Enterprise, and it has working A/C and a CD player. We dropped our car off at the mechanic's shop in Mount Healthy last night, and I drove the car to work this morning.

Normally, I'd listen to podcasts through my iRiver. I opted instead today to bring some CDs from home. I am so glad I did. I came into the office today so fired up from listening to Her Majesty from Sophia Ramos and Beer & Coffee from Matthew Ebel. Specifically, the following songs, in order, just made the hour-long commute so much more bearable (links to the iTunes Music Store):

Off Sophia Ramos's album, "Her Majesty"

  1. "Black Madonna"
  2. "What I Do Know"
  3. "Esperanza"
  4. "Kill Your Pain"
  5. "Torn Down"
Off Matthew Ebel's album, "Beer and Coffee"
  1. "I Know You're There"
  2. "Trees"
  3. "Nothing"
  4. "Latté Days & Porter Nights"
Why not spend some coffee money and pick up some of these tunes? Or buy the albums - they're both rock-solid.

To Sophia and Matthew -- thank you so much again for sharing your talents. You both rock!!

A Very Harry Potter Weekend (spoiler-free)

It was a very Harry Potter weekend without a lot of sleep. Keisha and I went to Borders Friday night and waited with several hundred others to pick up our copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7). I read the entire book on Saturday, and yesterday, I started reading it to Keisha... in character.

Initial thoughts on the book... In two words: Oh my. In one word: Wow.

I captured some audio from the event, which will be on the next or a future episode of the Journey Inside My Mind Podcast. No spoilers will be revealed in that audio, which will be released in the next day or so.

If you've read the book and would like to join the conversation, you can do so over here, or you can go to one of my favorite Harry Potter podcasts, Harry Potter Prognostications. As of today, though, their site is no longer spoiler-free.

Three Male Dogs - JOKE ALERT!

Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle.

The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time.

The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return.

Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, "The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me."

The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, "I love liver and cheese."

"Oh, how childish," said the Poodle. "That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever."

She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says "How well can you do?"

"Um. I HATE liver and cheese," blurts the Golden Retriever.

"My, my," said the Poodle. "I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence."

She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, "How about you, little guy?"

The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua.

He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says,

"Liver alone. Cheese mine."

Retrospective - Year-to-date and prior-year snapshots

From time to time, especially since I've been blogging for awhile, I like to look back through the archives of my blogs. It's been awhile since I've done this for Journey Inside My Mind. Can you believe I've been doing this for 5-1/2 years? A lot of content since that first post back in January 2002.

Starting off by going back each month of 2007 so far:

Here's what happened as we go back a year at a time during this blog's history:Have you found anything from the archives that you'd like brought back up to the surface? Let me know, and I'll share it with the rest of the group here.
