Why One Voice? (follow-up)

I've been holding on to this piece of paper for some time for this particular post.

This note appeared on the One Voice Cheryl Dawson Memorial 3K Family Fitness Walk registration form:

Why One Voice?

On March 25, 2002, at 4:30 p.m., Cheryl Dawson was taking her usual route from work to her bus stop in downtown Cincinnati, when she was brutally murdered by her estranged husband. He apparently knew her routine and had been waiting for her.

I was an auditory witness to this crime, which happened just the other side of a frosted window, within 15 feet of my desk.

Even though I did not know Cheryl, I "know" Cheryl. Many of us know someone who lives with the daily threat of domestic violence.

To honor Cheryl's life, her efforts to protect her family from continued violence, and in an effort to ensure that something positive comes from this tragic event, please support One Voice: Cheryl Dawson Memorial 3k Family Fitness Walk - to end domestic violence in our community by raising awareness of this issue, promoting prevention and alternatives, and raising funds to support the services that strive to provide healing for all the victims of this epidemic.

The event occurred on September 25, 2005, and I did a podcast about it.
