iRiver, Upcoming Podcast, and Subscribing

Hi everybody! Glad you stopped by. In this post I'll share about my new iRiver, the upcoming podcast, and the podcast feeds:

This past Saturday I bought an iRiver T30MX 512 MB, using my Google Adsense check. The MP3 player I'd been using was a Creative Nuvad 64 MB. I was attracted to the iRiver because of the price, storage capacity, and functionality; specifically, I like that it comes with a condenser microphone built in.

I'll have to post some audio snippets of my first recordings using the iRiver, probably over at the podcast only page. I'm geeking out over my new toy, as you might imagine.

I'll probably record the voiceovers for the next podcast using the iRiver only, just to see what it all sounds like. It will be a topical podcast, with some true stories and podsafe music. I have one more story from Keisha about Keisha that I need to record, and then I'll mix in the music.

So, if you haven't subscribed to the podcast, I recommend doing so. Click on the link to the podcast feed for help.

Speaking of the feed, I inadvertently discontinued the Feedburner feed for this blog while trying to keep you all directed to the new feed. I may resurrect a Feedburner feed sometime soon; we'll see. Let me know what you think.

Also, in changing the RSS feed to point to the new podcast only blog, I seem to have lost the iTunes subscription URL. I know that some of you are using iTunes to subscribe to the podcast. Can someone e-mail me or post the URL to subscribe in iTunes in the Comments (b.k.a. guideposts)? Thanks!

Why One Voice? (follow-up)

I've been holding on to this piece of paper for some time for this particular post.

This note appeared on the One Voice Cheryl Dawson Memorial 3K Family Fitness Walk registration form:

Why One Voice?

On March 25, 2002, at 4:30 p.m., Cheryl Dawson was taking her usual route from work to her bus stop in downtown Cincinnati, when she was brutally murdered by her estranged husband. He apparently knew her routine and had been waiting for her.

I was an auditory witness to this crime, which happened just the other side of a frosted window, within 15 feet of my desk.

Even though I did not know Cheryl, I "know" Cheryl. Many of us know someone who lives with the daily threat of domestic violence.

To honor Cheryl's life, her efforts to protect her family from continued violence, and in an effort to ensure that something positive comes from this tragic event, please support One Voice: Cheryl Dawson Memorial 3k Family Fitness Walk - to end domestic violence in our community by raising awareness of this issue, promoting prevention and alternatives, and raising funds to support the services that strive to provide healing for all the victims of this epidemic.

The event occurred on September 25, 2005, and I did a podcast about it.

It's Veteran's Day

I'd like to say thanks to all those who have served our country in the armed forces in the past, as well as those who are currently serving our country. You have stood and are often standing in harm's way, protecting and preserving the freedoms we enjoy.

You are not forgotten.

Mood: groovy
Listening to: Adam Curry's Daily Source Code #276
Eating: microwave pancakes, chocolate silk coffee, and water
Watching: my wife sleep on the couch

I was spending time with my Dad and stepmother with my sister Stephanie. My Mom (aka. the Official Mom of Journey Inside My Mind), was in the hospital:

I'm the oldest in my family, and I'd had two younger sisters, but no brother. I was envious of my friends who had older brothers and sisters, and sometimes lamented that God had chosen me to be the firstborn. Yet that changed once I got the phone call that night.

Mom called and told me I had a new baby brother, and they've named him Paul, after his dad, my stepfather. We all decided to call him P.J.: Paul Jr. As he got older and began talking, he'd hear my Mom call me "Daniel", which is my real name. He started calling me "Deenel". It became a nickname for me, I suppose.

When I was 11 years old, my mom and family moved to Houston, Texas to take advantage of the promising job market down there. My sister Stephanie and I decided to stay in Ohio with my dad and stepmother. We'd visit Texas over the summer and Christmas breaks, but, since I graduated from high school, I haven't been to Texas that much, and we haven't been as close as we might have been if we'd lived closer to each other.

In 1995 he came up with Mom, my sister Mandy, and my step-brother Richard to be one of the groomsmen in my wedding. I was 25 years old then.

Now he's been in the Navy these past few years, and naturally it's been a busy time for him. Fortunately, I've been able to keep in touch off and on via e-mail.

I wish I could do or say something that would convey how much I love him, respect him, appreciate him, and am grateful that he's my brother. Today he turns 25 years old.

Happy birthday, P.J., from your brother "Deenel".

Podcast Promo introducing Dayton-based Band 'Murmur'

Hey everyone! I just posted a new promo for the Journey Inside My Mind Podcast: mp3

In it I share about finding a band from Dayton whose music I got permission to play on the podcast after sending them an e-mail.

They weren't listed on the Podsafe Music Network, so I suggested that they upload some of their music so that other podcasters could play it, which they did.
11/5/2005 Update: The promo has generated some discussion at DaytonBands.com. I got an e-mail from Rich Palmer, who does the Miami Valley Musicast, where he features bands from the Cincinnati and Dayton area. He's going to play my promo on his podcast soon, and he sent me the link to his promo, so that I can play it on mine, too.

JIMM 21 - Jazzmania 2

Mood: sappy
Listening to: JIMM 21 - Jazzmania 2
Eating: broiled salmon steaks

This will be the last episode that is posted to this blog. You can find further episodes at the JIMM Podcast website.

JIMM 21 (32:17, 22.1 MB) describes another bout of Jazzmania I've had, from listening to some great female vocalists on the Podsafe Music Network. Beware! Jazzmania is contagious - my wife and daughter have fallen in love with the music played here, too.

Here's the run-down, including the songs played:

Voting on Podcast Alley

Mood: fantastic, happy, all-around good
Listening to: C.C. Chapman's U-turn Cafe #3 - again
Reading: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (link to come later)
Eating: don't know yet - it's almost lunchtime

Hey guys, it's the beginning of another month:

I just finished voting for all the podcasts I listen to at Podcast Alley. All votes from the prior month are reset to zero at the beginning of each month, so now is a great time to cast your vote for podcasts you listen to. There are over 10,000 podcasts in the directory, yet still those with the most votes get the most exposure. It's a small way to show your appreciation to the podcasters and help them get a bigger audience.

If you would like to vote for the Journey Inside My Mind podcast, here is the link: http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=9638#
