Pointers for welcoming a new member to the team:

• Learn about them and accept their background
• Explain the rules, culture, and values of the organization
• Allow the new member to participate in group activities
• Ask the new member for input
• Speak to the new member in his or her language
• Teach the new member in pieces
• Create an 'orientation' binder for the new member
